 Information about Shanti Tigga

 Shanti Tigga was the first female  Indian jawan who broke all the barriers by her hard work and effort and attained success. Shanti Tigga 35 year old mother outperformed her male counterparts in the physical tests to join 969 Railway Engineer Regiment of Territorial Army (T A). 

Shanti Tigga's husband passed away suddenly in the year 2005, she was recruited on the grounds of compassion. Her first job was asa points man at Chalsa station in West Bengal's Jalpaiguri district. Shortly after her recruitment she sat for the tests to join the Railway Engineer Regiment of the Territorial Army and in 2011 she succeeded and joined TA.

Indian Army finally started to recruit female officers in the year 1992. The first female cadet batch joined Indian Army on March6, 1993 and included 25 woman. Woman were recruited in short service commison (SSC) officers and they could work for a maximum of 14 years. Shanti Tigga broke all the barriers and oined as the first female jawan. She has become a role model and true inspiration for woman across all fields and divsions. Shanti's story is of courage and determination and gives hope to many woman.

How was Shanti Tigga's performance in physical test?

Shanti performed very well in all the physical tests. She took five seconds less than her male counterparts to complete the 1.5 km run. She completed the 50-meter run in 12 seconds which is rated as excellent. She was selected in TA on the basis of her excellent performance in the physical tests.

During her recruitment Training RTC, Tigga impressed the firing instructors with her skills and earned the top most position of marksman. She was awarded the title of 'Best Trainee' during her training at the recruitment camp. Unfortunately her life was brought to an abrupt end and she was found dead on May 13, 2013. Shanti truly was an exceptional figure who will continue to inspire and motivate  many woman.
