1. What We Must Learn From The West  - by Narayan Murthy. Mr. Narayan Murthy is the co founder of Infosys company. The speech ‘What We Must Learn From The West’ was delivered by Mr. Murthy when he received the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Award for Excellence in Public Administration and Management Sciences 2001 from the Lal Bahadur Shastri Institute of Management.


2.Mary Kom – The text lesson includes an interview of the famous female Indian boxer Mary Kom.In this interview Mary Kom speaks about her beginning days of boxing and her career as an international player, difficulties and challenges faced by her and lastly she encourages woman to take sports as full time career and motivates them. Mary Kom won bronze medal in the Olympics for 51 kg Flyweight category of boxing.


3. The Naïve Friends by Munshi Premchand- This story is a translation of the original short story ‘Nadan Dost’. This short story is about two small children brother and sister who see birds egg in a nest at the cornice in their house. The kids are curious about safeguarding the eggs and protecting them. In their care to protect the eggs they fail to follow the rules and touch the eggs and thus the mother bird destroys the egg.

 

4. Fur by Hector Munro. This story is taken from the Complete Short Stories of Saki. Fur is story about two friends Suzanne and Eleanor. Suzanne wealthy cousin uncle has come to stay in their town and she is keen on getting a fur coat from her uncle. The fur coat is very expensive and she wanted it as she was going on  a vacation to Davos. Davos has a cold climate. Suzanne makes a plan with Eleanor to get a fur coat from her cousin but due to her selfishness she does not help her friend Eleanor when she needed her help. The result was Eleanor did not help her in her plan and gets the coat for herself from wealthy cousin. Suzanne at last gets a fan as a gift for her birthday.
